Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are getting a divorce after almost seven years of marriage.
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star filed for divorce from the Chicago native on Friday, February 19, after multiple reports that they were heading for a divorce. The couple had a big fight that pushed Kardashian to her breaking point.
The couple has ended their love story after seven years of marriage and four children together.
It's reported the exes seek joint custody of their children North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, three, and Psalm, one.
The high-profile couple, often known by the portmanteau “Kimye”, began dating in 2012, had their first child in 2013, and married in May 2014 in a lavish ceremony at a 16th-century fortress in Florence.
"This divorce is happening because Kim has grown up a lot,”
a source filter the information.
"She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile, Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy shit, and she's just had enough of it."
Kanye had discussed his bipolar diagnosis publicly and within his music, as his public persona grew increasingly erratic and controversial. He had been hospitalized for exhaustion and sleep deprivation multiple times, including a psychiatric hold in late 2016. Two years later, he likened bipolar disorder to having a “sprained brain” in an interview with David Letterman. He courted intense backlash in 2018 for publicly supporting Donald Trump and saying 400 years of slavery in America “sounds like a choice”.
In the last weeks, Kim had been staying at home in Los Angeles with her kids before her girls' holiday to Mexico.
Meanwhile, Kanye had been holed up at the $14 million Wyoming ranch.
