A vaccine ingredient made by Emergent BioSolutions did not meet quality standards, J&J said. J&J didn’t say how many doses were lost, and it wasn’t clear how the problem would impact future deliveries.  The New York Times reported that 15 million doses were involved.

Johnson & Johnson identified the spoiled batch of doses through its quality control process, the company said in a statement on its website. The site is "not yet authorized to manufacture drug substance for our COVID-19 vaccine," and added: "This batch was never advanced to the filling and finishing stages of our manufacturing process."

However, Johnson & Johnson said they will keep working hard to deliver 24 million single-dose vaccines before the end of April.
