WhatsApp has incorporated a directory of local businesses as part of a test that it has started in Sao Paulo (Brazil), so that users can locate coffee shops, flower shops or clothing stores in their neighborhood from the messaging application.

The head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart, has reported through his Twitter profile of a pilot test that they have started in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, with which they seek to put local businesses in contact with citizens.

The program will incorporate a directory of businesses, such as florists, coffee shops, clothing stores, so that users who live in the neighborhood can locate or contact them.

As Cathcart has shared, the new directory will appear in the Contacts section, which opens when you want to write a new message. Under the name of "nearby businesses" (and with the generic icon of an establishment), it opens a window with different business categories: restaurants, workshops, food stores, education, etc.

If the user selects a specific category, they will then see on another screen -but always within WhatsApp- a list with nearby businesses, which in addition to the name and a profile image, also offer information such as the address, the opening hours or the distance to which they are.

To identify proximity, the user has to indicate an address, which will appear at the top at all times, and which can be changed at any time.

When you decide on a business, clicking on it will then open a window with information about what they offer, and two buttons: one to start a conversation and the other to open the profile.

Cathcart explained that the test has started in Sao Paulo because there are "millions of small businesses" in this city, and that they will collect the comments of those who try this novelty to consider its expansion to other cities or expand the types of business.
