Grocery shopping can be budget draining if not done correctly. If your numbers are tight, here are some tips that will help you save money.
If you are the kind of person that saves money on everything but does not compromise when it comes to food, we feel you. Buying cheap ingredients or over-processed foods is not an option for many people, but this can sometimes be quite expensive. That is unless you know how to get excellent bargains even when buying fresh food. Here are some tips that will help you save money on fruits and veggies:
Keep an eye on frozen fruits and veggies sales
When these items are on sale, they can literally cost half as much as the fresh version. Not to mention that it allows you to get out-of-season items all year round! Buying frozen bags of your favorite fruits and veggies while they are on sale will also allow you to save in the long run, as you can stock them up.
Freeze your veggies
When produce is at the peak of its freshness, it’s worth freezing it so you can use it later on, even when they are not in season. A great example is an asparagus, which at the end of its season can be only at 25% of its price and it is really easy to freeze. Keep in mind that in order to freeze some veggies, you first need to Blanche them!
Keep an eye on organic produce sales
Sometimes, organic produce is on sale while the conventional counterpart is not. Those times, you can save money while eating organic, too! So if you always avoid organic options because of the price, it’s time to check them out regularly. You might be surprised!
If you go to a farmers market near closing time, you might be able to get a better deal. You might find fewer fruits and veggies because some of them might sell out, but by closing time, sellers are ready to negotiate and slash their prices!
