Not too long ago the idea of meatless hamburgers, sausages, chicken or meatballs would have seemed like a joke. Today, however, the tendency to eat these products grows daily and is available in more restaurants and grocery stores, and Pizza Hut is the latest food chain to join the adjust its menu to the trend.
According to CNBC, Pizza Hut is adding Beyond Meat’s sausage to its U.S. menu this week.
Customers of the pizza chain can order the Beyond Italian Sausage Pizza or the Great Beyond Pizza, that features Beyond’s meatless sausage made from peas, rather than animals.
The coronavirus pandemic has revived Pizza Hut, as clients who considered the chain as a dine-in restaurant have turned to ordering its pizza for delivery or takeout.
Yum Brands, Pizza Hut’s parent company, and Beyond Meat already have a partnership, for Yum China began selling products from the maker of meat alternatives in Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut restaurants over the summer, and Pizza Hut restaurants in the UK and Puerto Rico also sell the meatless sausage.
Beyond Meat CEO Ethan Brown said in an interview that Pizza Hut wanted a substitute that tasted just like meat-based sausage.
“There’s a lot of people out there who really want plant-based meat, and there’s a huge appetite for this type of product,” said David Graves, the chief brand officer of Pizza Hut U.S.
