What started a while ago being something revolutionary, has already become a trend and there are several restaurant chains that have incorporated vegan food, meatless options, and grain-free items into their menu. Chipotle has announced a new product that can be added to the list. What is it?
Chipotle Mexican Grill on January 4 began offering a cauliflower rice option to attract new consumers who are shifting to healthier food trends.
According to CNBC, the rice substitute is made with grilled cauliflower, cilantro, lime, and salt will be available in U.S. and Canadian restaurants for a limited time, and will cost an additional $2 for tacos, burritos, or bowls.
The chain of fast-casual restaurants, specialized in tacos and burritos started testing the item at select locations this July and, like Chipotle's other ingredients, it's prepared fresh daily and includes grilled and riced cauliflower, hand-chopped cilantro, lime, and salt.
“Chipotle fans have been craving more plant-powered, better-for-you options that align with the latest health trends and emphasize the benefits of real food,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer.
The rice substitute has grown popular as more consumers cut grains out of their diet, and the company said that before the test, one-third of new menu requests from customers was for cauliflower rice.
According to CNBC, o promote the nationwide launch, Chipotle is also extending its line of Lifestyle Bowls, which began two years ago and sought to attract consumers who were trying to follow strict diets.
Though the options are available for digital orders only, the new variations on Whole30, ketogenic, vegetarian, and vegan Lifestyle Bowls will include cauliflower rice.
So fans can get a taste of the new addition to its menu, Chipotle is waiving delivery fees until Monday, January 11, for orders that amount to at least $10, include Cilantro-Lime Cauliflower Rice, and are placed on the Chipotle app or website.
