Have you ever wondered what's the difference between a check and a cashier's check? It's simple!
A cashier's check offers way more security than traditional ones, as it implies that it's drawn against the bank funds and not the funds of an account holder.
Another difference with traditional checks is that when you obtain a cashier's check it won't be you who will be filling out the check, but the banker.

Learn how to fill out a cashier's check
Before you fill out the check, there are a few things you need to do:
- Identify the name of the payee. It's one of the most important information you will have to provide the banker to fill out the cashier's bank.
- You will also need to check if your account can cover the amount of the check. Although these types of checks are drawn against the bank's funds, you will have to transfer the amount of it to the bank's account. So, if you don't have enough funds, you will have to cover it by making a deposit.
- Check the fees! Ask your bank if you will be charged an additional fee for filing a cashier's check.
- Prepare your ID: You will need to present an ID, passport or at least a driver's license at the bank. So make sure you have it in your wallet!
Unfortunately, you can only do this in person. So, once you are ready, it's time to pay a visit to the bank!
Talk to a bank teller about your plans to fill out a cashier's check. He will tell you whether if he/she can do it or if you need to talk to customer services.
Then, you will have to present your bank account number, so that they can access the money for the check and fees, and your ID. The last step is to provide the payee's name and the amount of the check.
Once you have it, make sure you put your cashier's check in a safe place until you need to deliver it to the payee.
If the deal falls through, don't panic! You can still recover your money! You just need to take the check back to the bank and the teller will void it an return the amount to your account.
